Finishing Touches - Making Pottery

Lots of slip trailing today.  Can you tell what the squiggles are on this snack plate?

I also attached open ended handles to a couple queso bowls.  I'm thinking about glazing just the inside and rim, leaving the outside natural..  What do you think?

I ordered a metal name stamp.  The lettering is from a sample of my own printed handwriting.  It's one-inch wide.  I think it's cute.  Kind of difficult to use without distorting the other side of the pot.
Another good studio day :)

  1. i think the slip trail is a butterfly with it's path showing... the stamp looks great, i'm sure you'll get so you don't distort with it.

  6. It's supposed to be a dragonfly. Maybe my minimalist slip trail style needs a little work.

  7. I think your slip trailing is great! It's lovely and smooth. I thought it was a butterfly too.

I really like your bowls. I think being unglazed on the outside will look really cool, plus I like the contrast in texture.

I really want one of those stamps! But with my name on, obviously! Not yours! :)

  9. Cindy I thought you were going to use my technique and make your own stamp, what went wrong?
The bowls are lovely. When I've made bowls for friends they always prefer the ones that are only glazed on the inside, so go with that. Remember if you don't glaze the rim you can stack them up rim to rim in the kiln and cram loads in. I do love them with the handle. I'm going to have to make some and see if I can use the terra sig. on the outside.

  10. Hey Mark, I gave it a shot, but my letter carving skills suck. Definately give those queso bowls a go. They are a fun project.

  11. Your slip trailing is so beautiuful, looks like a dragonfly to me with a long tail; I think leaving the outside natural is great, but you know me, I love the color of the natural clay. Your stamp is wonderful, I love the stylized writing. I have one with an L and a star and I found that I press in at just the right firmness it doesnt' distort as much.
