Bowls for St. Jude's and Studio Tips

My next kiln opening will include several bowls from my "Praise Him" series.   100% of the sell proceeds are donated to help the kids at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

* A couple little studio tips *

Last year I started taking photos of my fresh pots with detail notes.  I keep the photos in my studio binder.   Very helpful for consistency in size and form.

A great way to de-warp bats.   A weekend squished between a concrete floor and a Shimpo banding wheel.  Works best if you lightly sponge the surface first.

Hope you all have a great clay day!

The First Week of 2015

The First Week of 2015  1-8-15

Hey Grandma, Can I have that big box?
L&L Kiln box is a fort waiting to happen

It's been a great week with "The Three".  Tomorrow is the last day of our week long vacation together.  I'm trying to think of somthing special for us to do, but the entire week has been pretty darn fun and very special to me.    My Grandkids have my heart wrapped around them very tight.

This snow bank is now officially the planet "Hoth" from Star Wars.

Painting with water colors and making up our own blues songs

Monday morning I'll be back in the studio making pottery and missing these amazing kids like crazy.

I am so blessed!

What is an Acceptable Witness Cone Bend?

In the Book "The Complete Guide to Mid-Range Glazes" John Britt writes about reading cones,  "The perfect arch of self-supporting cones is when it is bent to the top of the flared triangular base". He goes further into the subject with illustrations, photos and lots of great information.  If you don't already have John's new book, you need to stop what you're doing and order it right now.

I found this video from Orton. It was very enlightening.
